- 77 orders for ATR aircraft placed during 1997
  - with 54 orders for new aircraft
  - and 23 used ATR 42s

ATR delivers the 200th milestone ATR 72 to China Xinjiang Airlines.
June 5, 1998

Tarom, the national carrier of Romania, takes delivery of its first two ATR 42-500s out of the seven aircraft ordered in 1997.

ATR gains foothold in the Cuban market with Cubana de Aviacion order for ATR 42s.
